We will be upgrading the server for our customers on the server - soft1 - to a newer, faster, and better performing server. This upgrade will be conducted by moving accounts off of soft1 to a newer and faster server. This will benefit you and your website by providing a better performance and stronger stability.
This upgrade will likely be split up into segments, that covers a couple of days or perhaps more. All signs point to this migration taking no more than 2 days to complete. We will be migrating accounts during the overnight hours and it is just a matter of how many accounts can be migrated during that window to determine how many nights this will take. This migration will start on Monday evening, January 9th at 10PM CST and run throughout the overnight hours.
To see what server your account is on, you can log into your cPanel - [link] and look under the Server Identification heading. If this says soft1 then you will be affected by this migration. You can also use our server identification tool at - [link] - to identify what server your web hosting account is on. If this tool reports soft1.wznoc.com then you will be affected by this migration.
A few changes to highlight because of this migration.
• cPanel/Webmail Access - When accessing your cPanel be sure that you always use the link [link] and [link] for Webmail. You may have to clear your browser cache after the migration, due to the way cPanel handles redirects. In FireFox you can accomplish this by holding down the keys Ctrl+Shift+Del and this will bring up a dialog box. Make sure the time range is set to Everything and make sure the Detail Cache is checked and click Clear Now. Then close all of your browser windows and restart your browser. Then go to [link] if you need to access your cPanel or [link] for Webmail.
• Secure Mail Setting - If you are using SSL for checking or sending out mail, you may need to change the server hostname after the move. If you are using secure settings, there will be information for what hostname, ports, and other settings listed in your cPanel when you log in at [link] after the migration. For the most part, if you are using secure POP or secure IMAP to check your mail, you will need to change your email client to use a hostname of sunshine.wznoc.com so that the hostname matches with the hostname on the secure certificate. Port 995 is used for secure POP and Port 993 is used for secure IMAP. Port 465 is used for secure SMTP and you will need to be sure that you are using SMTP authentication. Specific information as it applies to your account will be available in your cPanel.
• Downtime Concerns - Downtime for this migration will be very minimal. We have developed a system for doing these types of migrations and have perfected it over the years. We are well versed in these kinds of migrations. The migration process works by first synching the data from the old server to the new server while everything remains live. This allows for a quicker turn around once the accounts are migrated from the old server to the new server. So even if your account is 10GB in size, it may only take a minute to migrate your account from the old server to the new server. Accounts are moved individually and separate from each other, meaning that one account may be migrated and moved to the new server while another account remains active on the old server. Your data will remain on both servers, so even in the event that something does not get copied over, it will still exist on the old server.
Please note that we have done hundreds of these types of migrations throughout the years and have a thorough understanding of how these migrations are done. We have scheduled this migration to start on Monday Evening, January 9th at 10PM CST. We do not have an ETA for how long the process will take but hope to close the migration window around 8AM Tuesday morning. Then we will be repeating this step for the accounts that were not moved in this window on Tuesday Evening, January 10th starting at 10PM CST. This window will be repeated until all of the accounts have been migrated, we really do no believe a third day will be necessary. Again actual downtime that individual accounts will experience will be minimal. Your account will be moved sometime after 10PM, but will remain up and online on the old server until your individual account is migrated.
